Statewide Geotechnics can undertake Environmental Site Assessments of potentially contaminated sites, such as a service station or sewage treatment plant. An Environmental Site Assessment may be needed where there is a proposed change in the use of the site, redevelopment of the site or the owner proposes to sell the site. It is also useful in establishing a reference point for the site to determine possible on-site contamination. An assessment may include:
- researching and collating information relating to historic land use of the site;
- undertaking necessary soil investigations;
- undertaking geological mapping of the site including reviewing geological and hydro-geological factors;
- contamination sampling in accordance with AS 4482.1 – “Guide to the sampling and investigation of potentially contaminated soil Part 1:Non-volatile and semi-volatile compounds” and AS 4482.2 – “Guide to the sampling and investigation of potentially contaminated soil Part 1: Volatile substances”; and
- identifying and classifying on-site contamination in accordance with the “Classification and Management of Contaminated Soil for Disposal Bulletin” Decommissioning of petrol stations in accordance with the “Underground Storage Tank Decommissioning Guidelines Bulletin”
